Another dumb question

I have a 1969 Speedmaster Moonwatch (which I love). Obviously it has a non-hacking second hand, so what is the point of the second hand since it is impossible to set it accurately?

To see that the watch is still running? Minutes setting obv accurate but other than that I couldn't say. All my watches have hacking and non-hacking movements would drive me mad when setting! 😄

It still tells you how many seconds have passed. You can time a minute, take a pulse, or any other timing, like basically every other watch before WWII.

If you are wondering why they were a couple decades behind in technology, haha, I don't know.

Completely unrelated but happy to see a fellow Deadhead here :)

I think the more recent one's do. Mine is from 1969.

You can always wait a minute to go by and set it exactly to the second. It gives you time to admire the watch.

Isn't there a way to retard by winding backwards or something? I don't encourage it but I think it is possible.

Not sure I understand, time and the second hand are moving at the same speed.

Just set it to the minute. You’ll be ok 👍

I get that, but was just wondering what is the purpose of a second hand complication in a non-hacking watch.

Let it run out of power, then wind when setting 🤔
