Can Grand Seiko finally make a clean and angular flat-link bracelet for their 44GS cased watches already? [UPDATED]

As a designer I often feel compelled to visually solve some gripes I have with design choices or product offerings. In this case, I have always thought that GS needs a few more bracelets (aside from their fully brushed Oyster-style and 5-link polished/brushed versions) that better match some of their more angular cases like the 44GS.

In the two photo-bashed images, I've combined elements for two theoretical options:

  • The Grand Seiko SBGA375 with it's 44GS case & the Halios Universa's flat-link bracelet (I've made the center links polished to match the Zaratsu finished case)
  • The Grand Seiko SBGA375 with it's 44GS case & the new King Seiko reissue's faceted 7-link bracelet

I think the resulting pairings enhance the beautiful case's design without introducing additional elements that don't necessarily correspond with the design. What I would also add is (as many would probably agree) some micro adjustability at the clasp. What are your thoughts?

You don't like the 5-link thing?  I think it looks gorgeous and distinguishes it from the Swiss brands.  But, then again, I don't know the first thing about design!  😜

I do wish they would include some sort of micro-adjust.  However, one thing I love about their clasps is how tiny they are - as a result, they curve and conform to smaller wrists really well.  If they could introduce micro-adjustability, without giving up the smaller / curved clasps, would love it!

I don't mind the 5-link bracelet, I just feel like it's not that special given how many GS watches come with it. It actually reminds me of the bracelet that came with my cal.1861 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (see link). I personally think the look is too curvy for how sharp and angular the 44GS case is.

I personally don't have any qualms with the lack of micro adjust on the current bracelets since my wrist doesn't vary too much in size throughout the day/seasons. Just thought it would help those that are complaining about it. I agree, without adding more bulk.

Brilliant idea. You have a real eye for industrial design.

Thanks Jason! I appreciate that. My background is in architecture and I was a Disney Imagineer for 15 years. I just can't help but find solutions to design opportunities.

It's one of those designs where I didn't realise it's not that great until somebody showed me a better solution. Seiko should pay attention.

I updated the post with the second bracelet I photoshopped that would work well with this watch too.

I think 44gs definitely deserves a new and sharper bracelet. It would look very attractive with a king-seiko style band like in the second photo.
