One year with my Grand Seiko SBGV231

I bought this watch from eBay as a gift to myself.

At the time I was looking for something simple, but with a subtle luxury to it. I debated this between SBGP003 with 9F85 movement with jumping hour hand. Do I want jumping hour hand, or lightweight?

I ended up picking this one because I favored weight over function.

It’s titanium with zaratsu polishing, keeping it at +-10sec/year accuracy, and 100m water resistance.

The only thing missing is the lumed index, but that’s okay because it gives me the reason to continue my journey for watch collecting.

Having been wearing this piece for over a year, there wasn’t a moment that I felt like not weating it. It’s simple, comfortable, accurate, and elegant. People hardly notice my watch. It’s that subtle, and does not seek attention.

I felt like my watch deserves a proper photo op, so here I share some of the shots of my Grand Seiko.

I hope you enjoy :)

One watch to rule them all! Congratulations

How do you find the fit and weight of the titanium bracelet? I saw you have a 6" wrist, and I found with my smallish wrists the GS bracelet is a bit big and heavy. Haven't thought about looking at titanium...

very nice GS

So just to clarify since I’ve been looking at this or I think I have, there’s an exact same version with a jumping hour hand??

This is my second titanium watch. My first one was Oris Aquis 43mm, and I had great experience with wearing a lightweight watch.

Some people like to feel the weight of the watch, but I lean towards the opposite. To me, the lack of weight increases the wearability and comfort.

I’ll share some more of my thoughts on the bracelet in my next post :)

For 40mm with a 44GS base design case, there are newer models with 9F85 movement which has a jumping hour hand function.

Check out SBGP001 - 003, they have the function, but the material is stainless still, and the brush on the bracelet is slightly different than what I have.

Buy for you, not for attention.
