Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

My dad gave me a watch with a dinosaur dial. It was a raised dial, meaning the dinosaur, I believe a stegosaur, had texture and was 3D in effect. I loved it! That got me hooked on looking for more interesting watches.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

1993 Limited Edition Dejuno Dinosaurs Identifier Series Watch

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Not a watch of mine, but my wife's. I bought a random box of watches from Goodwill with the intent to pop some batteries in the fashion watches and sell them for a dollar or two at our yard sale. Within the mess of fashion watches, I spotted a familiar shape. A tank to be specific. A ladies Cartier Tank was in the fold. The genuine article, my wife now owns a Tank. Coincidentally, Cartier had a billboard by the Galleria Mall with the Tank being marketed. My wife told me as we drove by it that she was going to get that watch. Two weeks later, I find it in the box that arrived. Go figure.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Don't do it. J/K. Educate yourself first. Take note of case sizing, diameter, and lug to lug in comparison to your wrist size. I made the mistake of buying some rather large watches because I like them but they don't compliment my wrist very well. Also, don't follow trends because you may end up with a piece that does not date very well. Most importantly, have fun and try different styles to see what you like most. One more thing, quartz watches aren't bad.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

They all garner my attention. All the time. That's how I ended up with over 100 pieces in my collection, and I still don't stop. Somebody help me.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

It used to be the Tag Monaco, but I have since moved on. I don't have a grail, primarily because I love horology and I know I won't stop buying even if I set a goal for one piece. I thought when I bought the vintage Tudor I had been after, I would give it a rest but I didn't. I picked the Tudor up from service and bought a Seikonaut my watchmaker had in his shop. I'm terrible.
