I thought I'd give it a try. I put a deep gouge into my Seiko SRPD for a stupid reason. If only I had a sturdier ceramic bezel insert, I reasoned, this wouldn't have happened. And nothing is more easily available on the internet than interesting SRPD-compatible mod parts. My new bezel arrived, my new bezel insert arrived, and I managed to assemble the pieces without ruining anything too important.
But my heart knows...
I just keep wishing I had this back...
Look, I even prefer that the SRPD removed the dots from 20-60 on the insert compared to the SKX! It decreases visual clutter! Sure, a lume pip would be nice, but my aftermarket lume pip isn't well-matched to the hands and indices anyway.
I see that my intentions weren't crazy. Orange SKX's have gold hands, a subtle little accent which I quite like. I thought that a gold bezel would match nicely. But the brown ceramic bezel insert just doesn't tie everything together in the way that I imagined. (It's also smoother and shinier than the product photos led me to believe.)
I don't think I'm so incompetent that my final result is to nobody's taste...
...but it turns out that in hindsight I really value the high contrast between the stock SRPD orange dial and matte black bezel insert. And I can't stand that the brown becomes more red in sunlight, a bluish brown would be more complimentary. The blingier gold street look is kind of cool, like a gold G-Shock, but it just doesn't match how I dress at all. I guess these brand design teams aren't being paid to do nothing.
Anyway, that's why I've been looking at SRPK listings for the last 6 months. When I inevitably make all the same mistakes over again, they'll be in a smaller, more convenient size!

Actually the mod looks a lot better than the OEM one
Here is my 5KX mod. I call it the 5KX013. 5KX guts transferred into an SKX013 case with sapphire and a screw down crown. OEM Seiko insert. Solid link jubilee bracelet. I love mods. Yours is unique. I wanted mine to look like something Seiko would make.
Note: it now has a brushed etched chapter ring.

This is beautiful - it really does combine all the best features of both series!
