GW-8230B-9AER Review. Approx 3 months ownership

Had this since it was released late last year, it is of course the 30th Anniversary Frog. If you are worried about Frogman being too big then this particular model is something to consider. This is a the same dimensions as the DW8200 one of the very early ones and is entirely wearable as a daily even on smaller wrists. Being titanium there's literally no heft to it and hardly noticeable on the wrist. Clearly at the expense of the downsizing of more recent models is, let's be honest, this is a 'basic functionality' of Frogs. It has the 3521 module which is your standard ST, Timer, WT, Alarmsx5 etc with Tide, Moon phase and Dive log timer. There is of course no depth sensor with this module. Also lacking is MB6 which seems a little very odd for something at this price. Tough solar is of course great news and means you need not worry of having to unscrew the titanium case back anytime soon which is beautifully emblazed with the frogman logo. Month/day is displayed and unlike a lot of more recent modules cannot be configured to reverse this for European market.

The displayable part of the watch is relatively small as a ratio of the overall watch dial and the LCD of the time/date is the smallest of all my digi only G-Shocks which was quite surprising, but is clear and readable.

The gold accents to the Frogman lettering, the buttons, the rivets and buckle are beautifully done and really set this off against the black.

The back EL is an odd affair and tries to show off a Froggie logo but in my opinion just makes it harder to reader the time. I guess this is standard across limited editions.

With digital Frogs so hard to come by without dipping in to auction sites and the like this is a great way to get one, although as they are LE and no idea how long they will be in stock?

I'm realistic it to say this probably isn't the best Frog ever made, no where near to be honest, it is cool and crucially is a great size to wear daily and for sure will be a active wearer in my G shock line-up especially in the summer.

I got mine from the UK online store and it cost GBP £519 which if I'm being totally honest is at least £100 too much when I look at there line-up else where in the £400-£500 range.

It's a 3/5 star for me.

Hey there s3Cubed.

Great review! I agree with all you say. I too have this one since launch. I think it's quite cool that Casio made a new "old" Frogman (albeit with a new module number) for Frogman's 30th anniversary. I love the lightness with the titanium materials used.

I think if you're fan, it's hard to pass up anniversary releases.

Nice to meet another Frogman fan! Welcome.

Nick
