Collector of “value” watches getting ready to sell off about a third of my pieces in order to replace them with a Laco Casablanca and a Seiko Alpinist.
I bought myself a Technomarine Squale chronograph* as a reward for completing graduate school and, as my income increased (relatively!) I started buying maybe one watch a year.
*before the takeover!!
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
I remember a very small “brushed metal” digital watch I had in later elementary school (maybe around 1980?) that had a black screen with a green display. It had one button that let you cycle through the time, seconds, and date. I doubt it was much bigger than a 30 or 32mm case and very little of that was the display.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Start small/inexpensive, buy different styles and sizes, try bracelets, leather straps, and NATOs, etc. This way you’ll figure out what you like and don’t like rather than dropping hundreds or thousands on a watch that might look great but you won’t want to actually wear.
