Everyone is raising prices [or] A case for impulse purchase

Hey all 👋 This is my first post here after some weeks of interested observation, but I wanted to share something I've just went through. I don't know...

The question is out there:

Was Rolex getting back at Invicta for all those years of lazy copies?

Or Rolex really meant with all it's heart, like the Lady paying a Homage to the Tramp?!

I don't know.

You don't know.

They don't know it.

It is still ugly AF.

I agree with you that the term Homage has become something broader than it should. There are enough threads on WC discussing it, but IMO if you were to call it a Homage to the Explorer II, than I would argue it is a proper Homage: inspired by something great, yet still unique enough in its own way. I've had both watches for enough time on my writing guarantee you that they are both great, yet completely different watches. At least for me ;)

So I would argue that there are Homages and homages: the firsts are using one or more watches as an inspiration, but deliver something unique with it's proposition.

Then there are homages, which is basically a very skilful copy of another watch, adding little to none uniqueness to the homenaged watch.

You placed the C63 in this second category, and that's what triggered me ;)

But no hard feelings! Cheers, mate 😀

I disagree with you here. The C63 has some elements immortalized by the Explorer II, but it is a totally different watch. A stunning one, by the way, probably the best build quality from the four options here.

And as you're being picky: both the Mido and the Baltic also have generic elements from other well known watches, and this is ok. I wouldn't call any of these Homages.

For 20 bucks, maybe 🤔

I think everyone before me made the right points already. One last thing I could add:

The U50 looks more unique than the Tudor, which although more refined, has the typical diver-look, immortalized by the Rolex Submariner.

I've had both on my wrist and they are equally perfect. I suggest you trying them before making the decision. But you'll probably end up wanting both, anyway :)

It looks awesome on your wrist! I have a 7ish inch wrist and was just wondering, how will it fit!

Cheers mare, have a nice weekend!

Nice! I am still waiting for mine...

What is your wrist size, if I may ask?
