NWA: Projects Watches - "Persistent"

So this came today from an order before Thanksgiving. A whacky inexpensive (sold out) art watch, which actually wears quite well - if a bit loud. It's Japanese quartz, has 30m WR, and is probably mineral crystal. I didn't buy it for the specs.

This watch, directly inspired by Josef Albers' Homage to the Square, brings a piece of art history to the wrist with a design that features laser-cut layers of color. This innovative approach not only adds depth but also mirrors Albers’ exploration of color theory, making it a wearable representation of his work. Albers, a central figure at the Bauhaus between 1926 and 1927, embarked on the Homage to the Square series in 1950, solidifying his legacy in modern art.

His groundbreaking exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), "The Graphic Construction of Josef Albers," ran from 1969 to 1970, marking him as the first living artist to achieve this feat.

This timepiece is part of the first series of collaborations with The Albers Foundation, which continues to uphold the legacies of Josef and Anni Albers.

Through this partnership, the watch not only tells time but also serves as a testament to Albers’ enduring impact on art and design, making it a meaningful acquisition for enthusiasts and collectors alike.

With its roots in a series that began over seventy years ago, and in collaboration with a foundation dedicated to preserving the Albers' artistic and philosophical contributions, this watch stands as a modern homage to a pivotal movement in art history.

As a watch enthusiast, I dig stuff like this.

That's a great looking watch - I love the 3 dimensional look, and how that impacts the shadows made by the hands. I'm a fan of color field paintings by artists like Albers & Rothko, so this one is something that I can see adding to my collection even though I'd probably never wear it.
