Any opinions on the 556 A RS?

Hello fellow Crunchers,

I am currently finishing my degree and am looking to buy a whatch to celebrate that. I kinda fell in love with the 556 A RS and was wondering if any of you have experiences with the watch or SINN in General.

And maybe if you have any other, similar options, that sport a clean dial, have loom, screwworm crown, date modification and a badass bracelet.

That’s a great choice right there. I’d buy it myself.

Funny you mention the bracelet. There is no way to say it, but the clasp sucks. I am also not a fan of the A/R coating on the outside of the crystal. In the price range of the Sinn 556, you can also look at Monta Triumph. A far superior watch with an amazing bracelet. Another great choice would be the Oak and Oscar Olmsted.

I'm a huge fan of Sinn. You really have to hold one to appreciate the build quality. The AR is incredibly effective. Make the crystal dissapear. The clasp isn't as bad as some say either. I have a 556a and it's a hero of a watch!

I have EZM3 and love it except how bracelet looks. It’s always on NATO.

That is the 556 I wish I had got. Mine is the 556i. Great watch though, very accurate, wears perfectly.

Bracelet aside, I'm wearing that very watch as I type this. I've had it for almost 2 full years and still absolutely love it. I got mine on the black leather strap with red stitching, but just switched that up this past weekend to a 1-pass Nato-style strap https://www.watchcrunch.com/mutnat/posts/new-strap-day-10-397693.

The watch is great. Rugged, keeps great time (averaging about +2 or +3 seconds per day most days), looks fantastic (IMHO). And despite the potential downside of AR coating on the outside of the crystal, its presence really makes the crystal disappear. It's very effective.

I'd definitely recommend it! Did you have any more specific questions or concerns you wanted to ask about?

I was just looking for some general input as ~1500€ is a lot of money and I don’t want to find out about dealbreaking problems once I have the watch. But I have read somewhere that Sinn have a new clasp. Do you know anything about that or am I mistaken?

Yeah the clasp is the most common complaint about the 556. And yes, Sinn has recently introduced a new clasp which is physically a little bigger but has on-the-fly (toolless) micro-adjustment. However, it's only available for some Sinn models so far, and the 556 is not yet one of them. You could consider waiting, but we have no specific timeline. The other complaint I hear is that the hands are stubby/too short. That has never bothered me personally. I think the large 3, 6, 9, 12 numerals on the A version help and the issue is more noticeable on the "i" versions of the watch.

Ok thank you for the information. I want to buy it probably in about 3 months so maybe I’m lucky. And I will go directly to Sinn as Frankfurt is close to where I live and maybe I can negotiate a new clasp if I’m lucky and charming 😂

Yeah hopefully it will be available by then! On the downside, they are charging quite a bit for the next clasp if I remember correctly, so likely the price will go up somewhat when they do release the new clasp.

The current clasp is a basic micro-adjust clasp. It is not bad, but at over 1K, it needs to have an on-the-fly adjustable clasp. The second part of the clasp is that it has this stupid diver's extension on it. It just gets in the way and adds more bulk besides being a useless article. I do not know anything about their "new" clasp other than it being an added upcharge.

I would still look at Monta watches.
