120hrs of power reserve. Is this a bargain noone is talking about?

The Baume & Mercier Riviera 10702 (transparent grey dial)

This B&M has an impressive 5-day power reserve. It looks fantastic and this movement is killer (Baumatic BM13-1975A).

Or is it not? They provide "only" 2 years of international warranty.

Has anyone bought this watch? Or do you have another B&M with the Baumatic movement?

If yes, how do you like it? How has the movement been performing?

Looks great, but no listed price. And If I've learned one thing about retail, it's "If they don't list the price, I know I'll never be able to afford it."

$3700 on their site:

It is $3700.  Nothing to sneeze at but also not unobtainium.  Given that it's Baume et Mercier, I think you can expect significant discounts.

Generally, I feel like Baume et Mercier is one of the more looked down upon watch brands, in large part because of the relative neglect that Richemont has treated them with compared to their other brands.  Its a shame, because they do create some beautiful watches with excellent in house movements.

I am of mixed minds about the Rivera. On the plus side, the movement was created by Valfleurier specifically for them and that PR increase is a nontrivial feat.  Its a good butterfly bracelet with easy strap removal.  If you like the Genta designs, this is a real deal one.

On the negative side, the integrated bracelet means it wears quite large in the 42mm size (49mm lug to lug with a male endlinks) on wrist.

I also think the finishing frankly leaves a bit to be desired at the price point.  Its not bad finishing per se but the lines are simple and mostly lack interesting chamfers or curves.  If memory serves, I think it's all brushed which means it lacks a bit of textural wow factor.  Again, that's less of a true negative and more of a "at the retail price point" thing.

It's definitely one of those watches you ought to see in person before you put money down.  You might find you really like the aesthetics.

The traditional school of thought is that a brand measures its belief in the quality of its own product by the length of its warranty -- this is, in large part, why Tudor recently extended its warranty to five years (in the face of the GMT date disc issues) and JLC and Cartier recently extended theirs to 8 years.
