Recently put my IWC Portofino on a green fabric for the Summer, and my dad called me out saying 'I killed that watch'. He claims since it's a dress watch that I shouldn't put a fabric strap on it. I don't think it's a dress watch at all, and consider it more of a sporty chrono. Any opinions?
(Regardless I like the way the watch looks on the fabric and plan on keeping it that way for summer)

As for me it’s looking sporty enough to have a bit of fun with colorful strap, it suits quite well!
Personally, I’d put a fabric strap on a Chronograph any day. My first selection would probably be a rally strap, but fabric/Perlon/nato/seat belt straps all look great on a watch like this.
This is not a dress watch to me. It can be “dressed up” but I consider this a sports/aviation watch more than a dress watch.
I got mocked for wearing a gold vintage Universal Geneve on "a $3 nylon band" so apparently this criticism gets around. I'd say that in the same way there are sports cars and sporty cars, this is merely a dressy watch.
