Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I’ve always been into watches ever since I was a kid. But it wasn’t until Covid that I really got into collecting watches. I bought what was cheap and looked nice. Then I got an Apple Watch in 2021 I kind of fell off the wagon. Recently decided to get back into the game as the battery life and novelty of the Apple Watch has worn off.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

What I can remember is it was a Citizen with a blue dial and metal bracelet. I also remember a few cheap plastic kids digital watches and a Spider-Man quartz watch but I think the citizen came first.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Not really that interesting but the current, oldest watch in my collection is actually my fathers watch. A Seiko 7005-7130. It has a damaged crystal and covered in scratches, as it was his daily driver for many years. The sentimental value and story behind it is it’s the only gift that my grandfather ever gave my father, in his entire life.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Buy what you like. Don’t fall into the expensive watches as an “investment” argument to justify your purchase. Watches are art, jewelry and technology packed into a tiny package. We spend hundreds and thousands on TVs and computers and cars. I think it’s ok to splurge on watches now and then when you can. And if not, there’s plenty of watches in budget territory. Have fun and don’t overthink it!

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Casio, Tissot, Bulova, Timex, SteelDive, Seiko

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

I don’t really have a grail watch per se but I do really want to own a Grand Seiko one day. I don’t have one in particular.
