The Grandfather Clock (a gift to my dad)

My father have always worn the same kind of watches. A cheap analog Casio, Inex or that kind of watch. He has kept two over the last many years. The oldest for working outside on the farm and the other for everyday and dressy occasions, but they both look pretty crappy and beaten up (he sometimes wear a pocket watch when he dresses up).

I recently dropped his Casio (the farm watch) while trying to open the grimy and stuck screw in caseback and the crown fell off.. So he was down to his Inex.

I have long thought that I should buy him a watch and have tried to find out if he is interested in anything dressy or mechanical, but he like 100m WR, batteries, sappire and preferably on bracelet so he can go to town on some heavy firewood logs (his favorite pastime).

I found these watches on our national equivalent to eBay. They are called FarFar which means Fathers Father and is a common name for ones grandpa on your fathers side here in Norway. The guy had a story about wanting to order one for his Farfar and himself and getting so many compliments that he ordered more to sell. Don't know if it's true. But I know it's a IWC Spitfire homage. My my dad is my sons FarFar so I found it charming and with Citizen quartz movement, 100m and sapphire crystal 👌 Can't go wrong.

But I got to say it's a bit weird picking a Nazi pilots watch for when "making" a watch for your granddad if he was born in Norway in 1933. He must have lived under German occupation 😳 Or did he!?!

Aaaaanyways! Happy to get something a bit better looking for my fathers wrist. And happy to give thanks to him for helping us out with the boys during a rough year so far. I think he was really happy about it and maybe even a bit emotional 😊

Leather strap from Cheapest Natos BTW.

Almost definitely. But I’m only Swedish by marriage and haven’t got ahold of all the similarities and differences between the languages.

They are pretty much the same only completely different 😅 Swedish spoken is easy to understand for us Norwegians while Danish is very similar in writing, but if a danish speaking person doesn't speak slowly and clearly you can forget understanding anything. And don't get me started on their counting system 😵💫 We use to say that the Danish sound like they are choking on boiling hot potaos 🤔

Yeah I’ve been to a couple of conferences in Copenhagen and my Swedish colleagues always use me as an excuse for why we should talk English. I’ve worked with Norwegians and Danes and can’t understand either language.

A homage within a homage etc.?

I really dig the Spitfire, but I could never buy one while Stowa and Laco makes such legit fliegers at a fraction of the price of IWC 😅

Very cool watch (love your Synchron 😍)

Funny story about getting Dad a watch - I bought my Dad a used quartz Omega Aqua Terra, he wore it for a couple of months then decided it was too expensive for him to wear & was going to sell it!! So, I ended up buying it back from him (for reduced price of £1000)!!😂😂 But bless him, he used the money to put towards a car for my Mrs.

The quartz AT is such a great piece 👌 I might just aswell have ended up with the instead of my BB36.

My father is a cheapskate, he would have left the house with it if it was even close to 1000$. So this had some symbolism and he can take it chopping wood if he feels like it
