How easy does Alpinist’s second crown move?

I’m hoping Seiko Alpinist owners could answer this question for me. I never had the desire to own an Alpinist until I learned about the recently announced GMT version. I think I may finally add one to the collection.

My question is, how easy does the crown for rotating the internal bezel move? I have a solar powered Seiko that also has a second crown for rotating the internal compass bezel. However, it moves way too easily while wearing it.

It irks me whenever I see the triangle not lining up with 12 o’clock position. It would be a deal breaker if it moves too easily.

Same camp.... Sold my SARB017 before it was cool for that exact reason.... Drove me bananas.

Like everything Seiko, it depends on the luck of the draw. I’ve seen posts that it moves way to easy and doesn’t align… but mine barely moves throughout the day and is perfectly aligned. In fact sometimes I make sure it’s centered because those comments are ingrained in my mind.

Mine is pretty sturdy. It moves just the slightest bit over the course of a day. It's easy enough to move back though.

Thanks to everyone’s response. I may have to rethink about the next purchase then.

·

Mine have been largely steady, but I assume it is how you wear it that has the biggest impact. I like interacting with it, so I do not mind moving it now and again.

·

Mine moved all the time and was one of the reasons I sold it after a few months. I also felt like a bit of a poser as the compass added zero utility to any of my regular activities. Even if I needed to use a compass, i wouldn’t have used the one on the Alpinist

Perpaps they should go with no compass and one less crown like SPB157.

·

The internal bezel on the alpinist and the solar chronograph compass feels pretty much identical.

Mine moves slightly throughout the day but as others have mentioned it easy to re-align. I was one of the fortunate ones that has an Alpinist with no alignment issues.

If your solar chrono is anything like mine, then it is pretty much no resistance when turning the crown. I was hoping the Alpinist would offer more resistance.

Seems like it’s really a hit or miss.

There is almost no resistance on my Solar chrono or Alpinist either, they are very easy to turn. The advantage of the Alpinist is that the compass crown is positioned a little better so that it is not so easy to bump into it accidentally.

The second crown does turn easily, But it is tucked away and is reasonably safe. I've had no trouble with mine moving.
