Artem Sailcloth Problems

Hello all, Reaching out to the community to see if anyone else is having quality issues with the artem sailcloth straps.

As seen in the photos attached my strap has grown a slight tear on both the inside and outside with 10 months use. This is the second strap that I have received from Artem as the first one had to be replaced for quality issues (tear by the lugs).

Is anyone else having the same problems?

I've had 3 since Xmas, no problems so far, but maybe too early to tell. (2 normal, one loopless)

Damn shame, hope you get sorted mate 👍🏻

Good luck mate

I just searched for your strap. Saw it listed at £136. I find it appalling that such an expensive strap has failed after just ten months use. Regardless of whether or not they resolve this situation, seems good enough reason for you not to buy another.

I definitely will not be buy another, just hoping I get another one sent in the mail because it is still a very good watchstrap regardless of the longevity.

Pin buckles are the death of a strap. In my experience, a strap that is worn frequently will start cracking in about a year unless put on a folding deployant. I am not surprised this happend as Arten straps are made from some sort of (fairly hard) plastic, which they call "sailcloth". The same will happen to leather or even rubber. Happened to my Hirsch Robby, happening to my Tuns leather strap as we speak. Admittedly, your case is quite severe so it probably started a bit earlier than expected. Not a good showing for Artem, that's for sure.

Artem sells (pricey) deployants which go with their straps. I have one of the RM variety that would work with your strap but I also have the same strap on pin buckle (in a different color). I can say that the one on the deployant is in much better shape.

That said, the straps are expensive and arguably not worth it because, as you noticed, the quality isn't sufficiently better so that they would last a very long time. I own them primarily for a lack of alternatives when it comes to straps that can get wet because I need short size.

Hope you get it sorted 🤞

Thanks for the info, definitely will look at deployment clasps. Also same small wrist problem as you, so there are little in the way of options

Fortunately, I do not have that problem thanks to the deployant clasp. I have one that is almost 2 years and still looks brand new after having it cleaned.

I have the Artems which I’ve had for about 1-2 years. I’ve not had a problem but they are worn on watches in rotation so have not had much wear.

I’d expect straps costing as much as the Artems do to last much longer than the OP has experienced, I’ll be interested in Artems response. Please keep us posted.

Hello, update on the topic. They are sending me a replacement strap for free. As they have updated the design again they will send me both sides of the strap. Had to cut the old one to show I wouldn’t resell (boy does that hurt)

Update, received the replacement strap however it was defective. This is starting to annoy me.

Jheez, stumbled on your post as I was looking for a sailcloth for an upcoming trip and I’ve heard good things about Artem. Looks like I will be steering well clear as considering they are one of the most expensive on the market that’s just unacceptable.

following as I've been considering a loop less sailcloth on their deployant clasp for a new piece I just got

Yes was a disappointment as I do like the straps once they have broken in. They have sent me another replacement for this end of the strap. Once it arrives I will update this post.

This issue seems to be limited the the standards straps and not the loop less ones. But regarding build quality I have not been impressed yet.

Noted, still following to learn more in the longer term

Hello all, received the replacement long end of the strap. Seems to be in good shape, let’s cross our fingers that this one lasts.
