Omega Seamaster 300 Titanium Heritage

Omega Seamaster Titanium Heritage

The Omega Seamaster Titanium Heritage is a reissue of the 1957 model that came out as a challenge to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (arguably the first true dive watch) and Rolex Submariner which were both released in 1953.

This Titanium version exclusively comes in a blue cerachrome bezel and blue dial with faux patina lumed hour indices to achieve a vintage aesthetic. The dial, at first glance, seems to be a sandwich dial, albeit actually cut via laser to remove the layer filled by the lume.

The watch has 300m diving depth similar with the Submariner and the Fifty Fathoms, but that’s where their similarities end. The Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage calibre 8400 houses the first ever truly anti-magnetic movement. Unlike other anti-magnetic watches where the movement is shielded with a protective inner case which makes the watch thicker (like the Rolex Milgauss). What Omega did was simply replace the materials used with anti-magnetic parts: 1) non-magnetic steel plates 2) silicon for the escapement, balance wheel and spiral and 3) the spring is replaced with an an-amorphous material.

This innovation is coupled with the co-axial escapement invented by George Daniels that reduces friction in the movement and thereby reduces service intervals. Back story, Rolex people showed up very late when Daniels was selling his technology to them in the Rolex HQ. Omega later met with Daniels and adopted the invention in the late 90s then figured out a way to mass produce it.

The case material is also revolutionary. Omega used grade 5 titanium as the case material which makes it harder than steel, scratch resistant and signifcantly lighter and more comfortable. So many innovations in one watch.
