Seiko guarantee card nacessary?

Got Seiko 5 yesterday and the guarantee booklet has the certificate pouch empty. The retailer is saying there is no certificate for this tier of watch. Is that ok?

If they are an authorized dealer and got the watch through normal Seiko channels and you have a dated sales receipt it shouldn't be a problem.

Carelessness on their part. I’d return it saying there’s no certificate and walk away. Get it from somewhere else. I wouldn’t be surprised if they talk you out of returning it and take some money off the watch just for you to keep it . It’s worked for me in other instances.

I have no idea what the point of those cards is. Has anyone ever used one?

I have a card for all my 5s. There's no reason why you wouldn't get one.

·

I got it on all 3 Seiko watches bought so far.

Ah so I can use the invoice instead of the card, right?

It is for when you want servicing under warranty. The card is telling Seiko you bought it in proper shop and if the watches are still under warranty.

I am not sure which way to go 😒 The shop I got them from agrees they don't have that card in the box (because they're not fully authorized retailer) and are offering me to return the watch.

If I return them and buy the same from a shop linked on the Seiko pages, those will cost ~40€ more and I am not sure the official Seiko warranty will do anything for me (see the video) :/

Yes, for most goods the card just tells you what the warranty is. They use the date of purchase on the sales receipt as the beginning of the warranty. All 9f that is assuming that they are an authorized Seiko dealer. 8f you purchase the watch from somewhere that isn't a dealer they manufactured may choose not to honor the warranty.

"All of that is assuming that they are an authorized Seiko dealer. If you purchase the watch from somewhere that isn't a dealer the manufactured may choose not to honor the warranty.". Sorry for the typos.
