I don't wear this SZSB011 often. It was a gift from a friend and I've always loved the Grand Seiko inspired dial. I decided to throw this 19mm leather strap I had on it and DANG do I love it. Despite the fact it's the wrong size, it looks killer on this watch! So much so that I think I'm going to buy a 20mm version and wear this watch more.
As someone who's owned two Grand Seiko's to include the SBGR261, I can confidently say that you're getting what feels like 80-85% of the Grand Seiko dial for what is essentially something like 8-10% of the price. The achilles heel of this watch is simply the dimensions. 40mm X 48mm X 13mm is simply too big for what this watch is supposed to be (in my opinion). I mean, 13mm thick!?!? Come on. If this were 38 X 46 X 12, you'd have a home run.
Despite that, the dial paired with how gorgeous the distortion of the crystal is-is the sole reason I still love this watch. I agree. It's a bit large, 38mm would be better, and if Seiko had used a normal case back instead of the display one it would be slimmer as well...
Beautiful watch. Unfortunate dimensions indeed.
Maybe it works as a small dress watch for someone with a very large wrist. It's all about proportions. 😂
You unfortunately pretty much have to go vintage if you want a Seiko with appropriate dimensions in that style. The Seikomatics from the 60's are awesome. I have a Seikomatic Chronometer that I consider one of the crown jewels of my collection. It's the direct predecessor to the first automatic Grand Seiko, the 62GS.
Love that dial colour, means you can dress it up with a good black strap or down with your casual brown, and it will look great with a more unique colour like blue or green. I agree the dimensions are a little bigger than you might want, but the leather strap slims the length down a bit I guess compared to a bracelet.
