Poop or Scoop: Mod Edition

As I've started to immerse myself deeper and deeper into watch collecting and horology in general, I've started to see and take note of some beautiful modded pieces, at some not too bad prices. One common type of mod I'll usually see is a Seiko movement with custom dials, hands, indices, bezels, etc. Most times they are extremely beautiful, and fit into the exact type of watch i like. For example, i saw this watch the other day:

(Modded nh35 mvmt with a custom snowflake dial) Its sleek, not too large with a 37mm case diameter, and it has an intricately designed dial, which i love. The price on that watch is 250$, which is around what i would pay for a high quality new seiko 5 anyways, so its not bad at all.

How do you guys feel about modded watches?

I like modded watches. The idea of pursuing a "perfect" watch which may not exist, or trying to make something better by upgrading components - crystals, bezels ect.

I am looking at different bezels for my Duro right now.

I like them if I am the one doing the modding. But I won’t buy a pre modded watch. Just my personal preference. No idea what kind of work went into it.

Makes sense... ive recently wanted to get jnto modding. I want to find and buy a transparent case back to swap out for a seiko 5 that I recently purchased. Id love to see the movement through the crystal rather than a metal case back. I just dont know where to find pieces like that

The good thing is there’s no shortage of dedicated Seiko modding suppliers. I always used eBay. Just find the model number and search for a caseback for it. Should be very easy.
