Could Seiko ever produce affordable auto chronographs again?

We may see something at $2000 but don't think they would make an affordable automatic chronograph under $1000. Especially considering the solar Speedtimer popularity at $700-900 price point.
The Speedtimer can be purchaed for less than $500. Put a strapcode bracelet on it and you have yourself a beautiful watch.
Could they? Absolutely.
Would they? Not a chance.
