So I've purchased a Bambino for my father (as his Christmas gift this year). Found a great deal on Jomashop, but my question is will letting the watch sit in the box untouched for several months affect the watch in any way? Should I get the mechanism moving and gears going? Or should it not matter if I let the unopened box sit until December 25th?

Shouldnt be a problem. I have several watches that go that long in between wearings. On a side note, I need to sell some watches. Haha.
It shouldn't be a problem. This was more of an issue with older watches where the lubricants used in the movement were natural lubricants that had a tendency to dry out after a little while, particularly if not being used; even then it was mainly an issue if you let a watch sit for something like six months or a year. Modern watches will typically have much more durable synthetic lubricants.
I agree with all of the above :)
Yes, Jomashop has a 30 day return period, so do check that it runs properly before the window closes.
My memory is that Philippe Dufour said (in an interview I watched, I think) wind it up once a week.
Shake the box now and then for the automatic to kick in.
It will be fine. Don't forget, new watches can stay in a jewellers window for 6 months or a year or even more without being touched and still be absolutely fine once bought and worn.
Yeah make sure it all works well and wrap it up it be fine. keep away from heat and moister.
