I needed a watch box: Delugs Zip 8 Box

I've been storing my watches in a 6-slot handmade roll for a while, but the watches were not totally safe there. The roll is good for traveling, but for the long-term storage, they need something more comfy.

The way watches are stored inside a roll makes the bracelet touch itself and the back of the watch, so the watch scratches itself.

I've been searching for my perfect watch box. There was a must: my wrist is thin, so the box pillows must fit small-sized bracelets.

I saw this watch box: Zip Box (Eight)

I thought it was too expensive, but I didn’t find something similar. Also, I had already fallen in love with that box, so... ¡here it is!

The watch pillows fit small wrist bracelets, and they also fit within their compartment very securely (you can put the opened box upside-down and the watches don't fall).

The box materials feel hight quality, and I love the sporty look. I'm not a fan of wooden watch boxes.

I didn't go for a bigger box because I think this size is perfect to store and easily to handle. I will surely buy another when my collection grows enough.

I have no experience with other watch boxes, so I cannot compare it with anything.

¿What do you think?

I think good for you. It looks very premium and practical. I might just get one. 🔥

Thank you! It feels and costs premium too😜. But I'm really happy with this one.

Thank you😊

I like the watchbox, but the collection is class

Such a classy collection would look pretty nice in a handmade wooden watchbox. Maybe for the next 8 😍

I tend to be very particular when it comes to cases and still today I have not found a better solution than a single watch Pelican style case. It offers the best protection from crush, accidental opening even after you drop the box, and enough padding inside to absorb shocks, watertightness and lastly, I can hide individual cases in discreet places, a case with a bunch of watches together is just a good way to lose them all in one shot, that just gives me anxiety.

The case from Delugs is beautiful for sure but I don't like how the partition walls don't completely shield the watches from each other, so imagine if you drop the box sideways from a tall book case onto a hard floor, heavier watches could hit each other. Without these partitions extending all the way up also means it's not going to offer much protection from crushing.

For $595, let's be real, that's a lot of money and there needs to be more. I'd like to see them use a weather resistant zipper for some level of water reisistance which also keeps dust and dirt out. Partition walls should completely surround the watch, there needs to be campartments for tools, loupe, cleaning cloths, straps and a hidden compartment for an AirTag. I do however like the pillow design but I don't feel confident travelling with this one so to me, it's just a home display case with a zipper.

But, that is just me, I tend to be paranoid. I have learned that 99.99% of people will never be concerned with what I see.

I grabbed a bunch of these:

As I mention in the article, wooden boxes are not my cup of tea 😅

Thanks

How could they be able to hit each other?. The pillows fit very tight, the distance between watches is long enough and, when closed, the top cushioned part of the box presses the watches.

Anyway, I’m not gonna make the experiment 😅.

Having the watches in single boxes hidden in different places it’s a good way to avoid being robbed. But it seems a bit uncomfortable for the daily use, isn’t it? I use to wear different watches every day.

Yeah for sure and valid points, again that's just me and maybe it's the military in me that I tend to think of all possibilites of threats 😂, however unlikely. All I know is a partition wall is a 100% way to prevent that from ever happening and the structure will provide a higher crush rating.

As far as having watches hidden everywhere, yes it's a bit unconvenient but I have seen how that strategy minimized losses at a friends house when it was broken into so I'd rather do that. I think the busted door cost more than what he lost but he had a lot in the house they couldn't find.

We're all different in risk tolerance, mine is just OCD...😭

Maybe it’s the place. The probability of someone breaking into my house is very low here… but it could happen 🤬

Watch storage is hard! So many options, but all that I like are crazy expensive. :D

I've got a few rolls and cases by Delugs and I have mixed feelings about them - good visuals/designs and better than average cushions, but pretty overpriced for what they are (IMO). I definitely don't think the materials they use are of the highest quality and I've observed some small flaws in the production (e.g. the sections of a watch roll not being equally sized). Not to mention that their new products usually smell of glue like crazy and that's hardly a mark of excellent craftsmanship.

As someone who considered the zip box as well, I'll mention that I have some doubts about the watches bumping into each other given the lack of separators between the cushions. In that regard watch rolls are better/safer. I'm not very fond of wooden boxes myself, but I don't think zip boxes are my cup of tea either. I mostly use hard rolls, single watch cases (think Donut and Prism by Delugs) and canvas rolls. For watches without bracelets nothing beats the compactness of the canvas rolls IMO.

Mine doesn’t have any glue smell 😅 it is really very expensive but I didn’t find anything else fulfilling my needs and taste. At the end it is good quality and the watches are quite comfy there😊

The glue smell dissipates with time, so it's not really an issue by itself - I meant it more as a reference about how they actually build their cases. (normally I wouldn't expect basic techniques and quality fluctuations in something marketed as very premium) But I still like their products overall, as there's not much in this price segment anyways - the cheaper storage solutions are usually pretty bad (you can find some decent options around 100-150EUR, but they want have cushions as flexible as those of Delugs) and the really good one are very expensive.

In a world where nylon straps can fetch 60-90 EUR and bracelets up to a 1000 EUR I guess Delugs are good value. 🤑 The hobby is not easy. 😀

The seagull is only a temporary chronograph with a display case back, until I can save enough to buy my favorite chronograph. So, a few years 😅

It’s a very cheap watch. And you can feel that. It’s a well done watch for what it costs, with this incredible movement inside, but not my favorite.

The bottom right watch is a Zenith Stellina from 1957 with a beautiful patina dial. It’s my dress watch.

I'm in love with the Zenith Chronomaster Original tri-color. But I need a few years to save enough.
