I serviced my Tissot T Touch 1st gen. by myself... This is the story (with news)

Just editing this post to inform you that I received the new strap for my T Touch 1st gen. today. I'm servicing by myself the watch, I hope the final result will be available soon. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Today I decided to service (by myself) my old Tissot T Touch 1st gen. (Z252/352), orange strap, which had been into a box for years (since the battery ran out, maybe in ... 2004?). It was a gift from my wife (at that moment we had not been married yet) and I want to wear it again. Good memories, you know.

Recently I had bought my watch repair kit and a Renata battery to replace the old one (it was still into the watch). I disassembled the straps, the back cover, the very small screws protecting the battery case (I'm afraid my eyesight isn't what it used to be) and removed the battery. So far so good.

Then, took the machine out of the case, cleaned the case, cleaned the straps too, and the clasp. I'm not a watch specialist, I'm nothing but a passionate about watches, but I was quite proud of my job... until I decided to reassemble the watch.

It was when I realized that the area for attaching the strap to the watch was broken, and the LCD screen had a little black stain, fortunately not visible to the naked eye. I'm decided to finish the job and this morning ordered a new strap which I hope to receive in three or four days. But I've been searching for a replacement to the LCD screen (or the entire module) and I was not been able to find anything. Neither original nor without brand, neither new nor used. Ebay, Amazon, specialized websites... Nothing.

Nevertheless, I will finish my job, put the new straps on my original T Touch and wear it again, despite the little stain on the LCD. The watch will live a second life, I will be happy and (hope) my wife too.

You are a brave man to tackle that. My watch repair guy refused to change the battery on my T-Touch, as it was too fiddly. Something about some small parts associated with the touch feature IIRC. In any case, I had to send it to an authorized Tissot repair, and they soaked me for nearly $300 to replace the battery! I guess they treated it as a servicing. I was taken aback to say the least.

I love hearing about guys that do things themselves. Well done. ๐Ÿค

Thanks a lot for your words. Wow, nearly $300 to open the case and replace the batteryโ€ฆ Really exorbitant. Greetings from Spain!
