1989 Rolex Datejust 16220
The 36mm Datejust is widely accepted as one of the most iconic watches, commanding the wrists of characters like Anthony Bourdain, Michael Jordan, Martin Luther King Jr, and even Mike Tyson.
This is my Datejust 36 from 1989. What I love specifically about the 16220 is the engine-tuned bezel vs. its slightly more well-known compadre, the fluted white gold variant.
It's a full stainless steel rollercoaster of class & sport clashing somewhere in the middle & for me, it's perfection.
Currently, its catching waves on my buddy's wrist as he wanted to borrow it for a little vacation to Hawaii.

That’s a great looking watch. I went for a more simple bezel, but I’ve grown to love the fluted one since then. If I were buying today I’d probably get a darker dial and fluted bezel. That said, this might be my favorite watch.

They are certainly on their way, a nice soft yellow is slowly growing up, this was tritium lume, so I'm looking forward to what the future holds 😉

A stunning example of a classicly playful dial, I also love the leather selection choice. It's a lovely watch, and I agree, it is hard not to hold a DJ close to the heart. Great watch and thanks for sharing it!

Lol, that was my attempt at patriotism for the 4th of July. One side is leather, the other suede, so it’s a pretty strange combo. That said, it worked for a day.
