So I bought a watch-winding box

I bought the cheapest I could find at about $20. It's way bigger than I imagined.

First tested it with my vintage Seikos. Didn't work.

The pawl lever system makes for slightly more resistance to rotation of the winding rotor than usual, and the angle of the watch in the box is too shallow for gravity to move it.

So I place something under the back of the box to angle the watch further to the vertical, and they're winding.

You get what you pay for.

---

Update; by laying the box on it's back the watch is on a better angle. No need to tilt it, and a better view of the contents overall.

Update II: I plugged the wrong power supply in and fried it. I won't be replacing it. The wear and tear just to have the novelty of all watches keeping time is not worth it. I have 3 automatics with no manual wind, and it's a pain to keep up the winding rotation schedule.

I lucked out with the only winder I own. A local Nordstrom Rack here had a Wolf single winder thrown into the case of wallets. No box. No papers. No charger. Just a tag that said $60. It’s was mint. Threw a couple double A batteries in it and it’s been rolling for years now.

To me watch winder have little use. If you're not using the watch it's better to let it wind down to prevent wear and tear.

Watch winder are useful if your watch movement has a Seiko kinetic or need your watch winded to use at a certain date or to troubleshoot the watch.

Can't deny it's unnecessary wear and tear. I guess I like opening the box an seeing thm all on time.

I have experienced similar with my Seikos. Having recently replaced the pawl lever on one of them and my Kinetic not taking a full charge, I removed the backs and put them in backwards. Then I could see the rotors moving as they should.

Turns out I don't do enough activity to keep the auto going and the capacitor in the kinetic was on its was out.
