Post #7 SLAVA split second stopwatch

Bought this at Vladivostok around 1997 for US$10. The attached typed documents include words like “People’s Commisariat of Mechanical Engineering CCCP (USSR)”, “Order of the Red Banner of Labour”, “Second Moscow Watch Factory” etc..

It’s pretty heavy (approx. 200g) and the mechanism inside reminded me of a gigantic self-winding movement. It had a screw back opener inside the box but an 8 ball was enough.

I’m wondering how the stopwatches in the “West” were like in the same period. The scribbling on the documents seem to say this stopwatch was made in 1977.

When I was a kid I loved these

I inherited this Marcel & Cie stopwatch from my grandfather. I think it might be from the 1980's and I've seen them for very reasonable money on eBay. Yours is much nicer, and the accompanying paperwork really adds to the value!

On mine, the winding stem also acts as the start/stop button and the hands are reset with the pusher at 10:00. How does yours work? I see you have two pushers.

The crown/winding stem is the start/stop button, the 10 o’clock activates the second timing and the 1 o’clock is for the flyback.

The Marcel & Cie looks great. The grass is always greener…😉.

I don't know how I missed your reply, my apologies.

You're right about the grass being greener...🍻

That solar stopwatch says something about it being a prototype, what's that all about?

FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile / International Automobile Federation) defined racing cars participating in races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans “Sports Prototype”, at least, in the 1980’s. In the USA it would similar to an IMSA GTP car. TOMS was Toyota’s works team for the WSPC series.
