Which watches do you aspire to own someday?

There's a lot of talk about grail watches, but what about aspirational watches? You know, the pieces that are outside of your current budget, but the ones you realistically could see yourself getting in the future.

I'll start with the watch in the article picture: The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Skeleton Tourbillon.

Image

This watch is, at the moment, the one I want the most. It's also the hardest to get and the most expensive. Whether or not I'll actually ever get it, I don't know. But I sure hope so! I haven't seen it in the metal, but between all the videos and pictures, combined with Overseas models I have seen, I have no doubt that this is even more breathtaking in real life.

Second on my list, another tourbillon favourite, this time from Jaeger LeCoultre:

I think the visual balance between the moon phase and the tourbillon works really well, and the complications are integrated seamlessly. I love how the date jumps past the tourbillon cage! Unfortunately I haven't seen this one, either.

Last but not least, one of the horological greats from A. Lange & Söhne:

It is, of course, the Zeitwerk. It is highly divisive, with some loving the design, and others hate it. Obviously I'm in the former category! This one I have seen, and it's everything you would expect from Lange. Gorgeous piece, and one I'm pretty sure I will get (at some point...).

What pieces do you aspire to one day own? Pictures, links and videos very welcome!

Rolex buyers ;-)

Longines Master Collection Retrograde 41mm, L2.738.4.71.3, around $4k

Nice to see a Patek that is not a Nautilus/Aquanaut on this list 😍

I won't lie, this caused me to chuckle a bit. I think some Rolexes are fairly priced (at retail), whereas for others you pay a high premium for the brand. On the grey market, however...

The Master Collection has so many nice watches, definitely among my favourites from Longines. Beautiful piece!

Agreed. Just wish they were a bit smaller.

Yeah, size is generally the compromise unless the watches get really expensive 😔 I tried the Longines Conquest Chronograph 🐼 last year, size put me off (thickness in particular).

That VC is another level of crazy. Love the overseas line in general. I’d also love to own an Overseas Dualtime. And/or a Rolex Daytona. One can dream in the meantime..

It's one of the most beautiful watches ever 😍

Oh, nice! Another unknown brand for me. Do you mind providing a brief background on them, and possibly a picture of your wanted watch? 🙏

I've only seen one of them once and was blown away. The 99.1 is the cheapest and it retails for €6k approx depending on spec. Buy it now and it'll be delivered in 18 months approx. But oh how the wait is worth it. Here's a great video on them that will give you the details you're looking for

I would pick one of these over a rolex in a heartbeat.

That looks amazing, really! Lots of value at its price point. How close are you to buying one?

Unfortunately I bought a blackbay Tudor in this last year, so I won't be making any big purchases for another year or so... Still it'll give me time to save the required cash 😉

Nothing wrong with biding your time! I'm in the same boat, and I find it makes me more patient. Perhaps it's not intuitive, but since I know I won't have the money anytime soon, I relax and explore more options. To me, this is a big part of the hobby.

·

Ah, music to my ears 😍 The Zeitwerk is something else. Have you seen it in the metal? Any favourite colour combinations and/or complications?

·

I took a look on their website. It was hard to find any movement information (specifications in general were hard to come by). However the perpetual calendar one said automatic on the dial. Is it actually an automatic movement? Also, could you elaborate on your preference for homage watches? E.g. why an AP RO homage at $800 instead of a Maen Manhattan for the same price?

·

There is something classy about the original black and white gold, indeed. Probably the most versatile colour combination on the Zeitwerk so far!

It is a big watch, and indeed anything making it even bigger forces you to consider the practicalities of it all.

Any idea of when you'll possibly be in a position to acquire one? 🙏

·

...and suddenly I'm rather jealous of your collection 😄 I can't make up my mind about whether I prefer the 1815 chronograph or the datograph. I currently lean towards the former. Could I bother you to post a picture or two of yours? 🙏

I understand perfectly well why you wouldn't want to part with either of them to obtain the Zeitwerk. I feel the same way. In general, for a given budget, I would prefer a few watches over one "mega-watch".

·

What a watch! Thanks so much! I have to get a Lange chronograph at some point. 💸💸💸
