The Beginning

Hello everyone!

This is my first post on this app, and I have not yet figured out what I should do here other than share some stories about my watches and pictures of them.

The same way as most of you, I love watches. Quite simple yet so elegant and powerful tool has become a thing which I cannot feel right without. But it wasn’t always like this.

My first “serious” watch was introduced to me on my birthday in 2019. I can’t tell what made me want to get one, but the desire was there. What I know is that I was looking for an entry-level accessory that would complement my outfits and be comfortable and easy to wear everyday. So during a little walk through the shopping mall in my town, I stumbled across Swatch store and walked in. Despite not being very experienced in this field, those famous brand’s silhouettes with rubber bands were not really catching my attention and seemed simple and childish(?) I’d say. However, what I didn’t know is that they also have “heavy” watches made of steel like their System 51 collection or chronographs (obviously I had no idea what that is). And there was one model that really stood out to me - Swatch Irony Chrono, which had this classic look and a beautiful metal bracelet (had to be replaced straight away with the one on the photo due to the small size). What really surprised me is the quality of the bracelet. It felt very sturdy and expensive, without making any squeaking or scratching sounds of metal. Later on I realized how special and comfortable it is compared to other options from different brands. I can’t express how excited and happy I was when I walked out of the shop, wearing this weaghty timepiece. The feeling of steel on my hand… pure joy! From that day on, I fell in love with watches and everything that goes with them.

I’ve had this watch for over five years now, and you can see how beaten up it’s become. I could wear it every single day, no matter where I’m going and what I’m going for. One day I thought of how cool would it be to give them some love and bring them back to life. But unfortunately, they’re non-repairable and none of my local repair shops wanted to work on the restoration of them.

Even though I almost never put it on nowadays, this piece will forever stay in my collection as a reminder of what brought me to this amazing world of watches and taught me how to operate them.

Let me know if such long read stories are something you would like to see in my next posts. And of course, I am always happy to see your thoughts and personal stories!
