Snoopy brings some soul to the Apple Watch

I only wear my Apple Watch as a tool—it's the best cycling computer and hiking companion by a longshot. As a "watch" I hate it. It's big, ugly, and its constantly distracting/over-connected intent is exactly why I wear an analog watch every time I'm NOT exercising. But with our roads closed (mudslides!) and gloriously empty, I've been walking to work with this thing on my wrist all week. I still hate it all of the time I'm not walking....except for one wonderful thing: The animated Snoopy dials.

These are so brilliant and clearly have so much love and talent dedicated to them that they deserve to be called out. Each time you turn your wrist to check the time, a full animation of Snoopy and/or Woodstock begins. They're consistently charming and original, with the characters interacting with the "hands" of the watch in different ways depending on the position. There are also animations related to the weather and time of day. Apple keeps adding more, which means they never grow old and you never know what to expect. They're genuinely funny and always heartwarming. I really feel like it's the only thing this watch does that evokes a feeling other than the anxiety that comes from constant alerts, reminders, and prompts.

Dare I say it, but it's the first time I've felt a human connection to this cold, chunky appliance.

Same! I only wear mine for exercise and golf but snoopy has made the experience more fun!

I only use my Apple Watch for exercise and fitness tracking too, and I also have Snoopy as the default face because it's adorable. All the little interactions with Snoopy and his buddy Woodstock are so cute.

😅

But that would look even worse strapped to my wrist than the AppleWatch...

I love my Apple Watch. Currently using it to test drive a world timer feature for my next mechanical watch. It definitely gets in my rotation outside of exercising and sleeping for tracking.

The snoopy face is fun!

This what smart watch should do, animation and other thing thay regular analog or even digital couldn't, instead trying to look like an analog on display. Nice, but still not a fan of smart watch yet.

Couldn't agree more. For all of the usual Jonny Ive bloviating about how he and his team reinvented how humans track and tell time, it's amazing how many of the time-centric faces are just skeuomorphic riffs on old analog and digital watch readouts. This is at least novel and takes advantage of the technology.

For me, the biggest problem with a smart watch replacing my analog watches is that, like everything else we put on our bodies, we use watches to express our personal and unique tastes. Modern or vintage, gold or stainless steel, dress or sport, status-symbol or understated...they're statements. And as long as smart watches are the opposite—mass-produced, identical screens with the customization limited to a few strap choices—they exist, by design, as artless, generic appliances. I don't mind that when I'm using it as a piece of equipment on my bicycle, but it means I'm not wearing it anywhere else...

Ha! Updated my software just to try this out and I’ve actually laughed out loud a couple of times! Nice find.

Same here. I love mine as a watch for exercising being it in the gym on the bike or running. I use it during the night as well and as an alarm clock.

But yeah - snoopy is just the best part and so much fun!
