Under the radar

I find myself being more interested by older, under the radar(in present times) watchmakers - Eterna is a great example of a brand who had immense influence in the watchmaking industry and now is forgoten. Do you love other brands that are not very well known today ?

Quite a few, lately its vintage Accurist mainly because I remember them from my childhood. I am trying to find my birth year watch (it's in the 1960's !) and its proving elusive unless I have bags of cash. I am now on the lookout for Kontiki!

I'm the proud owner of a 1970 Eterna Matic 1000. It's not the most complicated, famous, high-end or pretty (although it is a looker to say the least) Eterna out there, I love it to bits.

Eterna is a company with such great history that few people really know about these days. If you're reading this and don't know about some of their achievements, do yourself a favour and take a look at the Wikipedia page for Eterna and all of their notable achievements. You'll be surprised that they aren't more popular!

In terms of brands I love that aren't too well known, I'm a Camy ultra-fan. I love these watches because they're simple and dependable Swiss jobbers. My love stems mostly from sentimentality, because these were the watches used by miners in my town and were sold by my watchmaker, who's my hero. He wore an automatic Camy at school when he was about my age and he still has it.

Yes to Eterna. I wear this pretty much daily despite it being gold and rather impractical. I call it my "accidental grail".

For sure. It's a Miyota 2035 movement with the hour wheel and battery connector removed. With the brass connector out of the way, there's enough space to get a ring and chain around it which I then connect to a larger ring. I made a handful and gave them out as gifts to friends and family. The circuit boards make for wonderful earrings too.

thats so cool it looks like it could be a cool fidget or keychain gadget to play with. my brother's into bikes so his keychain has some chaining teeth that loop around and i always thought it was cool, he's into those gears i'm into these.

I love making miscellaneous jewellery from old watch parts that need a second chance at life. I give them out to friends but keep the occasional piece. I have a necklace made with the mainplate of a Camy branded FHF ST-96 movement which I wear almost daily as a good luck charm.

(I don't have a very good pictures of it) Here are some earrings made out of a ladies' cocktail watch movement which I gave to my watchmaker's daughter.

I have an abundance of old clock parts that'll become something soon. I just need some inspiration and a weekend.

this is super cool and dare i say quite steampunk, nevertheless a good use of parts beyond repair or use. i like that good luck charm and its sentiment, i think i would follow suit with something similar if i wore more bracelets and chains. geneva stripes in movements are quite a marvel of themselves that go quite unappreciated or noticed.
