The Big and the small of it...

Before I became more aware of what I could and could not pull off, size-wise on my 6.125" wrist. I purchased, or received, some larger watches. Or at least large for me. Do I still wear them? Yes. But there is an ironic effect- the smaller watches make my wrist look bigger. The large ones work if you can't see the wrist- creating a nice illusion. Above I have 2 large and 2 small watches shown. The smaller ones: A vintage Seiko dress watch, and vintage Jules Jergesen dress watch. The larger pair? An early Casio G-shock. And a 'vintage' - if that even applies- Invicta. The later was a gift from work. The Casio was purchased simply to have a watch I couldn't break.

When I look at watches now, I immediately check case size, lug to lug, thickness, dial design, and how the curve fits the wrist. A long way from thinking if the band fit after removing links all was well.

But too small can look weird as well, especially as watch sizes have greatly increased, and only in the last few years have started to reverse that trend. When the day comes that I can pull off a Panerai you will know watch sizes have really shrunk. I can't- they are not there yet.. but there are IWC examples that will work. I tried one on recently. Not a bad look. Okay. Whereas the Hublot Classic Fusion fit as if it was custom made for me. A grail watch.

One observation: for small wrists, leather is your friend. Small frames benefit from a more fitted, tailored look- clothes or watches. Larger men can pull off a looser fit.

Big watches look rugged. But smaller ones make that slender wrist look better.

The perfect watch? Fits well while still having B.W.E - big watch energy.

I definitely see four pictures. My "go to" sizes range between 38 - 42mm. I would probably go as small as a 36mm but don't think I will ever go larger that 42.

I believe I have the same gold Seiko in your picture, but with a gold metal band. I like your leather strap look better. If my memory isn't too far off the mark, I think I got mine in the late 70s to mid 80s as a gift from my parents. How long have you had your Seiko?

Since the 80's. The original brown leather strap was replaced a couple of years ago. I liked the original better, more of a true brown- this one seems like more of a reddish brown.

A keeper

This is my watch. The band is original. I think I’m going to look for a leather strap after seeing your watch sporting one.
