Citizen Tough and Orient Triton - the only 2 watches I need

The perfect, affordable 2 Watch collection: Citizen Tough and Orient Triton. Both have great lume, sapphire crystal, 200 m water resistance and 22 mm lugs. The Tough is solar quartz, it has titanium coating and a monocoque case (no separate case back). The Triton is a lume monster and it’s a very beautiful, dressy, modern automatic diver. I’m seriously considering selling all my other watches. Having less watches to worry about makes me feel better. Don’t forget, your watches own you, not the other way around! For me, a smaller collection means less worry and more freedom. Being able to really connect with a few chosen watches gives me more joy than having a big and versatile collection. Anyways, that’s just my personal experience.

So, you are telling me that you aren't the lease bit interested in trying an Evolvens, a Hungarian brand, utilizing local Hungarian suppliers? It would just be a third watch. No harm in a third watch. They look tough. They can handle all sorts of outdoor activities.  You are active, right? What's another watch? 33% more freedom, that's what. Just go test it out, what's the worst that can happen?

Then a 4th, 5th and before you know it, you have a big collection again :D Seriously, my goal is getting down to 6 and keep it as a maximum limit. I’d rather have a few high end pieces, than many cheaper ones. But that’s just me, you do you ;)

Love my Triton and my Acqualand is also a solid beast.

Though I could not cut back to just these

Solid watches, and I think what you said about connecting with a few watches rather than having a large collection makes sense.
I personally aim to have two watches for every occasion, (two divers, two casual wears and two beaters)  and that's six in total! so I get your idea.

Me neither. I have 12 now (not counting Casios) and I feel overwhelmed. Keeping only the ones I actually wear seems to be the solution for me. A total of 4-6 would be plenty enough in my case.

Having a pile of beautiful cheap watches I never wear is something I want to put an end to.

Oh, I was just teasing. I know exactly how you feel.

I use Watchee an iPhone app to track the collection and wear stats to try and keep a decent rotation

I reckon you could pair it back to just the Citizen Tough if you really wanted.  Love monocoque cases, really regret not picking one up when I had the chance. Probably the perfect analog watch.

But yeah, if one wants a diver, it's hard to go past Orient. That caseback is just SENSATIONAL. Orient is one of the few brands remaining where one doesn't feel one is being ripped off (Citizen is another).

Never heard of Evolvens by the way. I like the fact that it’s a Hungarian brand and the dials with “Budapest” written on them are really cool, but they are not my style... very far from it :D My cup of tee is Seiko, Citizen and Orient. But thanks for letting me know about this brand ;)

Not my style either. Had a hard time finding a Hungarian microbrand.

All hail the Triton!

·

i agree with you, but 6 watch collection would be nice 😍

·

With respect I don’t think two watches represents a collection, it is just a pair. They are very similar, so it is clear you have a certain style that works with you and are unafraid to roll with it, and for that you should be commended.
I would argue that the Tough is the dressier option of the two, it’s less busy and thus could slip under the cuff without causing too much attention.

Two of my favourite brands although my only Orient thus far is the Kamasu which I'm always wearing. I love the Triton though and the new slightly slimmer version without the power meter. I nearly bought that citizen but opted for the Citizen Ray Mears in the end with the 300m water resistance and otherwise similar specs. An under appreciated watch I believe?

I love your enthusiasm and your choices. I appreciate the thought behind choosing these two as an "all I need" proposition. I'd struggle so hard trying to pair down my collection to just two watches, and don't think I would ever do it. BUT I am going to enjoy thinking through this exercise. Who knows.....

Under-appreciated maybe, but I freaking LOVE the Mears. One of the GOATS IMO.

Yes absolutely! Date window too small though!!

I typically see my watches to pick one out to put on my wrist.  At that point, the "beauty" of the case back is lost and no bracelet rattles in the slightest once clipped shut.  Watching reviews, I picture some staring fondly at their case backs by the hour and waving the watches with bracelets around in the air to check for "rattles."  Different strokes for different folks and all that.

Sometimes I pick up the Triton or any Seiko with the tsunami wave, or take the watch off for a minute, just to admire the caseback. It might be weird, but I doubt I'm alone with this. Watches with uninteresting casebacks get a bit less appreciation, but that's just me. My favorite casebacks are the Triton and the SKX btw.
