So I've returned my ProTrek...

Hey guys,

I had to return the ProTrek I got. The temp sensor on the left side of the watch and the buttons on the right side of the watch kept digging into my wrist, it was becoming uncomfortable. I don't really need an ABC watch, I just liked the styling of it. But the inverted display wasn't the best either. So... question is I'd like to get a tough solar, or solar powered watch. I like the 5610U but also like the GAB2100, but I think the digital screen on the GAB2100 would be too small... Any other options out there for something between $150-200 CAD? This will be my daily watch. I did look at some Boderry skeleton watches but after a ton of reviews on YouTube I'm now not so sure as it sounds like the watch runs 35 seconds fast or slow daily. So constant time adjusting would be annoying.

So long story short, I think I'm leaning towards a tough solar Casio. Probably 5610U unless there is another option out there I'm not aware of. Thoughts?

Thank you.

Hmm, ya maybe want to look at a Rangeman ?! Solar, atomic, abc sensors. The digital Display on the 2100 really is small, one need good eyes...

5610 should be the best option in behalf of money/ what you get on features. Plus it s not too bulky. (Personally i prefer the GB 5000 U- Same module but screw down caseback and stainless steel core)

5610U is difficult to compete with, so my official recommendation would probably be to get the 5610U. Then you can wait and see if you still want a bigger g shock, sensors, or analog later. A square g is practically the free bingo space at the center of the watch collecting bingo card. Just fill it in and see what you want on top of that later.

Thank you for the suggestion. I’m scared when I see that sensor on the left side lol I think it will cause the same issue with digging into my arm. Also it’s a little bit above my budget. But while scrolling through I a saw this: Casio Men's GW-7900-1CR G-Shock Digital Display Quartz Black Watch, Black, Chronograph,Digital https://a.co/d/c8xtQC5

Is that watch any good? Looks like it would be a bit bigger than 5610 but not as big as Rangeman or ProTrek. The moon and tide option is kind of near. Still though solar and multiband 6. Although I did read something about the screws on the watch face coming loose… 😐

The Rangeman is big, although I've never felt the sensor on my wrist. The 7900 is a more normal size for a g shock, larger than the square but would wear well on most people, and as is the case with most g shocks, if you like how it looks and what it does, there isn't really a "bad" model. The thickness of most g shocks is one of the primary reasons I will always keep a square around, because I can toss the square on and get it under any jacket or glove no problem. Getting both wouldn't be a bad idea, and might even be possible inside of your budget if you find deals. I'd probably recommend just getting which ever one you like the most, and if you want to go back for seconds, you can.

It s a lil beefier than the 6900, i ve got the blacked out one. Atomic, solar. Got mine 'bout 10 years, still got all screws...

I do a lot of wiring of circuit boards for work so my wrists are always moving/twisting. I think that’s the main issue. So I think the square might be the perfect solution. I do like then moon phase and the tides in that 7900 but again it’s something I don’t really need just like the ABC options on the ProTrek.

That’s a good sign. I’m usually really good with my electronics so it would probably last me just as long as it lasted you.

For me, the square is the business/professional/utilitarian option, and my bigger g shocks get worn when I can get away with a big watch because I think they're fun and badass.

Haha that makes sense. Unfortunately my budget is enough for just one so I need to chose wisely. I happened to find a video on YouTube comparing the 5610 to the 7900. It’s a bit of a difference in thickness. I think 5610 may be the answer.

My mate got a new Casio mudman recently and loves it. The Mad Watch Collector gave it a good review except the visibility and his wife’s thoughts

I sent my mate this review and his feedback was, check this out, looks ok too me! Hope this helps.

The GW-M5610U is the G-Shock to buy if you can only have one G-Shock.

But then, why should you? they are cheap enough to indulge in 2-3 without breaking the piggy bank.

I have both models of the gshock your talking about and the screen on the 2100 is very small. I only use that section for date and seconds. The 5610u is awesome though. Whether you keep it on the resin strap or change out, it's a great choice. I also have the 6900 which is sick as well.

This is really nice. This is pretty much what I had the 3510 ProTrek so I know this will be a bit too bulky for me.

I'm not big on negative displays anymore so I'll only have positive displays. But I say look at either the 5600 or 5610. Your right though, lots of choices.

I agree. Negative display looks good in photos and more “tactical” but in real life it’s hard to see what’s on the display.
