is it safe to wear a nice watch in San Francisco?

I used to live in the Bay Area but I have recent moved and am now traveling back to the area for a bit of time. People have said that over even the last year the city has gone downhill and it’s not safe to wear anything nice anymore without the risk of being robbed, is this really true? wanting to get some input from other people who have maybe also been in the region before or are currently in the region. thank you

It’s fine as long as you’re not flaunting it. Keep it tucked under a cuff. It also depends on which area in SF. Like any big city, there are sketchy areas that I wouldn’t go showing off your Rollie. 🤣

As with anyplace, maintain situational awareness and don't present yourself as a soft target and you greatly improve your chances. Don't rely on statistics or crime rates.

I’m more worried where I park my car. Lol. San Francisco has a homeless problem like most other big cities and it’s become worse lately. The same rough areas are still rough only now there a little bigger and you see more of them.

I’ll wear an Explorer II to Oracle park and I don’t feel unsafe. If I go to the tenderloin district at night I won’t. Be aware of where you are, what you’re doing and you’ll be fine.

I used to visit SF annually with work and felt very at home and relaxed there. I probably wore a range of watches and would have been sensible about when and where, like any big city. It would be a shame if it wasn't as relaxed as I remember it.

what @88MilesPerHour said.

Don't believe the fake news media. San Francisco has its share of big city problems, but it's not quite as bad as they'd like you to believe.

The fact that you are asking yourself this question is also the answer.
