A. Dunhill?

I'm super interested in this A.Dunhill. But really, it's the dial that caught my attention. It's rare I see this "roulette" style dial but I like them a lot when I do see them. I actually tried to see if I could get an AliX Vendor to make me this one

with a different logo. Each one I approached shot me down however. Apparently their equipment isn't set up for that.

Anyway I don't know anything about A. Dunhill. From Google I learned they aren't as much a "watch"company as a "luxury goods" company which I'm told can be a red flag. But it sounds similar to Mont Blanc who makes awesome watches (and pens, and cufflinks). Also coincidentally, A. Dunhill is apparently owned by Richmond group, The same company that owns Mont Blanc and also Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier, IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Panerai. That's some decent company to keep.

They are the same company that once made Dunhill cigarettes and while they are not longer involved in the tobacco industry, one of the many "Luxury goods" they specialize in, is pipes and smoking paraphernalia.

But there wasn't much in the way of independent reviews, or opinions.

The movement appears to be a modified ETA2892 which while not groundbreaking, is a good movement.

The post mentions that it's an unworn, numbered (429 of 1000) limited edition, from 2007. The receipt shows a retail of about $4,200 but they paid about $3,200 after what appears to be a steep discount. They are asking $1,900. It's a nice watch but nothing about it screams $2k. I feel like for that kind of scratch I can buy 3 watches of similar quality. But what do I know. I'm just a dumihed. The damn thing for some reason it has me intrigued.

Anyone with "hands on" experience with Dunhill? Anyone with a better idea of their quality? Anyone with a to strong opinion about them?

For a cheaper alternative, Google up the Todd Snyder x Timex Military variant from your second picture. I'm sure eBay has a few.

Love the OD green variant I have, and even if the thing ticks hella loud, never selling it. One of the very few pieces I picked up at an "AD" per se lol. Bought it in NYC at the Todd Snyder flagship way back.

Alfred Dunhill watches was a thing in the 80s, I think. I remember my dad having two of them. Nothing groundbreaking in design or movement but they make alright watches.

I had a black and gold dunhill quartz tank in the 80’s, they were into all sorts of personal luxury items. I also had a gold dunhill cigarette lighter to go with it.

They did make some quality items so that may justify the price tag…..

It’s a nice watch I can see why your smitten with it 👍🏻

Great idea! I've looked at them before, but I swear when I looked previously, I found it pre-owned models on eBay and they had a much bigger case size. Around 44mm. I was surprised to see them brand new, on Amazon, with a much more reasonable 40mm case. I might just get one!

As I was looking into them last night I wasn't wowed by anything else I saw from them. Very generic. But something about this watch, with both a GMT hand and a pointer date, and the "roulette" style last out on the dial that caught my attention. I'm still interested, but like $500 - $800 interested, not $2k interested.

2k? Yeah, that's the brand name talking.

When I look up "Dunhill" I find more cigarette lighters, cigar boxes, and pipes than I find watches.

I like this watch but the more I think the less likely it is to be in my future. 😆

I don’t think I would invest that much money in a manufacturer that wasn’t specifically a watch maker either invest it in a brand new watch?
