NEED HELP to fix my beloved dad's leftover watch! [EU Region]

Hi Crunchers, i believe that every sad story comes after lots of nice stories to remember. I can't tell how much i like my dad, literally he was my best friend. I've learned a lot from him, which help me to be the person who i am now and being happy with myself.

Unfortunately he couldn't be a rich man anytime on his life. And he didn't left too many things behind when he left us 4 years ago.

This watch is one of those few things and as a watch entheusiast -even though i don't like Seiko too much- this one has a value for me more than any other watch in the world. It is a real gem for me.

I don't know where to start and where to go. I am currently living in Netherlands and i want this watch to shine and work like its first days again. I want to use it and put it into my daily watches box.

The things i want to be done are:

Fixing the movement

  1. Day stucks at Friday sometimes

  2. Both day and date displays are completely off, day display switches around 4 and date switches around 7.

  3. Push button to change the day doesn't work sometimes

  4. I'm not sure if the two language day view works properly since it is in German and English but i only need the EN one.)

Cosmetic fixes

  1. Let's start from the glass. I want a sapphire glass replacement.

  2. Case is in neat condition. Since it doesn't have a huge scratch, micro ones are pretty easy for me to recover. I'll do that myself.

  3. Hands are looking like they're calcified. I want them replaced with new ones also with some lume in them. Since the current hands almost lost their all lume.

  4. Dial is also looking fine as far as i could understand behind this heavily scratched glass. But it needs some proper cleaning i believe.

Whom from crunchers can help me fix this "worths million times more than its value" watch?

Thanks in advance crunchers!!!

Seems to need a complete overhaul and possibly some new parts.

Hopefully some one will know a qualified watchmaker with experience with vintage Seikos.

Good Luck!

Same here, my dad was a Seiko guy so I am too, just because of him.👍🏼

I suggest looking for a genuine watchmaker. Do know they're extremely scarce in the Netherlands. Try to do a search for "klokken atelier / horlogemaker" and hopefully someone closeby can help for a not disturbingly outrageous amount of euros and decent customer service. Or try the Dutch watch forum Horlogeforum.nl there are quite a few knowledge people on there who can maybe point you in the right direction. I suspect you might have the best chance there because I know there are retired and active watch makers on it. (Not sure how well they will react to an English post but I would try it anyway)

Good luck and keep us posted!

If it was me I would not change the crystal, hands or Polish the case. This was your dad's watch and they are the battle scars he gave it, don't erase those memories. If you watch the 'I like watches' YouTube channel he posted some watches to be repaired and I believe he was happy but not sure about the cost.

Most of them happened while my mom wearing it 😀 About a uear ago she said "you know watches, this one stopped working. It was your dad's. Maybe you deserve it better, i believe that you take care of it". I was more than happy and grabbed it immediately from my mom :). But couldnt find time to research for it. Now doing it. Maybe, except the dial i leave the rest 😉

In my experience, most Dutch speak better English than a lot of English people these days! Particularly those at, or near, retirement age.
