Now in Technicolour! - dNg Design Journal Ch. 11

Hi! If you’re new here, I like to sketch watch designs for fun. Some work, some don’t, all of them are unrealistic. Tell me what you think regardless!

Personal Speil

It’s been a minute since my last Design Journal Post. To be honest, I think I like it that way. I have tried several times to make daily, weekly posts on WatchCrunch, but I think that when I put my passions and hobbies on a schedule, I burn out a lot faster. Ironically, doing something I like to do on a regular basis feels more like a chore as time goes on.

Not like it’s a new concept.

I have started that new series, though - I’m having a lot of fun writing the articles for #defsoneanddone, even if they don’t really get a lot of traction.

Thanks for noticing them though @Deeperblue! :)

Having a creative outlet is incredibly important to me, and being able to write lighthearted, sometimes humorous pieces on a topic I’m passionate about really helps me to break up the day-by-day.

At least, they make my partner laugh.

Anyways, I made two new designs - both in colour, and using shading and experimenting with some new stuff! Admittedly, my competitive spirit ignited when I saw this post by @porcodio, and while the quality of my work is nowhere near theirs, I’m glad that it’s inspired me to improve my own work, even if it was just slightly.

Shining Star

This watch design holds multiple firsts for me: First tonneau, first tourbillon, and first sunray brushed dial! Granted, I did write “Gears n’ Stuff” inside the tourbillon because I have no idea how to draw the little intricacies, but still really happy with how this turned out.

Referendum

I don’t know why I named this one “Referendum.” I think I’ve just been watching a lot of news and Aussie Politics, and that word keeps popping into my head. I did try my best on this one, but I think it ended up looking like a Wish version of the Reverso, except with more guilloché.

The dauphine hands were particularly challenging, and they still don’t really look natural. I was going to fix it last night, but I was too tired. Same with the colours - If anybody has any tips with making the green & gold less off-putting, I would really love to know.

As always, please tell me what you think, what could be improved, and what you would like to see. Any feedback is good feedback, and I would love to hear from all of you!

Thanks a ton! 😍 Yours are awesome, too - I’m glad you liked mine!

I need to work on making my gold look more realistic , though 😅
