Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

I have been fascinated with watches since I was a kid. I have always had at least 1 watch since I received my first watch. I really got into watches in the past few years. I blame YouTube.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

I wish I could remember the brand but I was probably 9. It was a mechanical field watch most likely a Timex. The first watch I bought with my money was an Armitron digital alarm watch in 4th grade. I wanted a Casio but I couldn't afford it.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

Most people probably won't find it interesting but I have a Seiko Kinetic watch I bought in a pawn shop. I had always liked Seiko but they were usually out of my budget and I remember seeing a Seiko Kinetic in a jewelry store and I thought it was awesome but too expensive for me at the time. Several years later I found my Seiko Kinetic at a pawn shop and I brought it home. I still have and I changed the rechargeable battery last year and it still brings a smile to my face.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Don't worry about trends, buy what you like. Its your money, your wrist and you are the one that will be looking at it and enjoying it.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

My favorite brand is Casio but I also love Seiko and Orient and Islander.

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

My grail watch is more a grail movement. I want a Grand Seiko or Seiko Prospex with the spring drive movement. It has to be a more sport oriented not a dress watch. I find the blend of technology and the smooth sweep of the second hand fascinating. Even the cheapest one would cost more than my whole collection but it's a grail watch after all.
