Let’s here it for the Seiko movement!

The Seiko NH35 movement is a robust workhorse, accurate enough for a daily wear, and often much better than the +40/-20 seconds per day guaranteed. It lasts a VERY long time and is affordable enough to give real value. They show off that I utilitarian movement on case backs and it draws you into the mechanics of an automatic watch.

All that said, there ARE better watch movements out there. Ones that are regulated from the factory, better materials, decorated, easy to service, and with longer power reserves. So while I enjoy and appreciate my Seiko movements, I’m not going to pretend that they are on par with even the most basic off the shelf Swiss movement. Am I missing something?

No, I rate the 4r's better than the 6r's TBH....

That’s a really interesting point I’ve been hearing a lot lately. I wonder what that’s about?

4r seems to be more accurate and more consistent in my limited experience. I personally think it's the longer power reserve that causes it 🤔

The 4R35/NH35 is not only robust, it is also relatively foolproof, in the sense that most components can be assembled only in one particular way. I've taken the wheel train of my training NH35 apart 4-5 times, and it still works. (The only things I've put together wrong were the pinions of the keyless works, but even that could be fixed.) The center pinion is a little wider than the one of a comparable Miyota movement, making it a little easier to install the second hand. Installing the movement with in the case with the friction ring is easy, and the dial is also friction mounted.

I have 17 watches with 4R35/NH35s, and all of them are ticking along happily. Some required some regulation, but that is not particularly hard.

No, I can understand why it is popular.

That is a great looking watch! It catches the light in ways that make it look really elegant.

Well done!

Thank you! My first mechanical watch. Purchased for me by my wife.
