Watch Shopping in Japan 2023 - JDM Watches to Look Out For

I’m planning a trip to Japan and debating whether or not to make a watch purchase or two, taking advantage of tax-free and of course the favorable exchange rates.

For those living in Japan frequent travelers, what should I know about watch shopping in Tokyo? Any JDM watches that interest you?

Would love to know the communities thoughts 😃

The answer to whether to buy a beautiful watch at a discount to commemorate a trip...from the watch's country of origin...YES!!!! Come on man haha. I'm heading there in April and I'm plotting how to get away from the family long enough to do it. It involves getting them to a Pokemon Cafe and shopping 😜

I used to be stationed in Japan. The watch boutiques are awesome and courtesy. But if you're willing to look at secondhand watches you're in look, too. The Japanese prefer unworn watches, so used ones are very available. I recently purchased a Speedy Pro (box and paper) from a Japanese dealer and had it shipped to the US. Even with shipping and duty, it was a good deal. Being there in person may give you a chance to haggle.

Areas to enjoy walking around (and will see several watch shops,as well) Harajuku/Shibuya, Gina, and if you're willing to take a train ride, Yokohama ( in the station, and the adjacent shopping centers)

Have fun

Both are nice watches. I'm curious what is the price you find in Japan for both of this watches though.

Lots of second hand watch stores in tokyo mostly selling rolex but also other brands. There was a classy one i walked into with 3 floors full of high end pieces - journe, patek, vacheron, ap, etc. But of course the prices were way above my budget. It was great to appreciate the pieces of art in person though and not just from a computer screen.

Anyway, if you're like me (a big seiko fan) then your target should be a seiko/grand seiko souvenir watch. And where better to get one than in the flagship seiko/GS boutique in Ginza! Lots of models to choose from and eye candy to satisfy your heart's desire. Enioy 😊

I got the SLGA021 from there in April this year

Gents it so happens I'm headed to Tokyo this December (almost a month away). I am also thinking of getting a nice piece to commemorate the trip, but I'm thinking of something more wallet friendly, but still mechanical / automatic.

1. So I'm guessing a Seiko? Any other brands that are popular in Japan / Tokyo (besides Casio, Seiko, Grand Seiko)?

2. What are some great JDM watches to look put for?

3. Any good (specific) places to shop and buy watches in Tokyo? I'm seeing Harajuku, Shibuya and Ginza above?

Same here, especially with the exchange rates and tax free shops.

Bumping this conversation hopefully. I am going to Japan in April and am also planning to get a JDM watch as a memento BUT except for the new green Alpinist GMT (when I really prefer the Blue and suspect that I could get a better deal even on the green one online), I can't think of one I want. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
