Vintage Rolex Datejust - is now the time to buy?

I’m new to vintage watches, but am really interested in trying out a vintage Rolex, since the price has dropped a lot in the past year.

Saw a 1984 Datejust 16014 listed for US$4k.

This is from a reputable Japanese dealer with over 100 positive reviews.

I’m eager to hear people’s thoughts, advice and potential pitfalls to avoid. Thanks heaps!

Older DJs have been dropping for a bit, but I think you can get a better deal if you time it, and never take the price on C24 as the best deal. Always negotiate and where you can, try to find their store vs. C24, usually save 10%+ if you can.

In terms of tips, be sure to have it inspected to make sure it is a not only real, but hasn’t been cobbled together with other parts, that can be hard when dealing with an international seller. Ask for a timegrapher image if possible. In addition, looking at the C24 listing, that thing is overly polished IMO. Would rather find one in rougher shape with lines intact that way you can have it done by Rolex during a service.

Soooo manyl risks out there that I avoid them, especially online purchases. Do your homework and keep in mind potential service needs/costs when making offers. Buying vintage is like a box of chocolates...

Do your home work before buying and factor in servicing and parts availability, buying vintage isn't for the money savvy or faint hearted,

Lots of frankenstein watches cobbled together.
