Q: How did you get into watch collecting?

Looking for convenient reliable timers for variable breaks at variable times with a job change.

Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?

An analog watch as a small child. I can't remember the details.

Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?

I have a citizen eco drive perpetual calendar from the late 90s that I bought when feeling bad for myself after being lightly electrocuted by a badly designed surge protector. It still works pretty well.

Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?

Don't overspend. Buy from places with good return policies in case the fit, literally or figuratively, is poor. Casio AE1200 (Royale) is a an incredible value for its dual-display, low weight, great pushers, and extended countdown timer - under $20. Casio WV-58R syncs to atomic clocks by radio and also has a dual display, is lightweight, and arguably also has great but totally different pushers though the timer maxes out at an hour - under $40. GAW-B100 gives an hour's digital countdown for each alarm, while having a highly visible analog primary time display, solar power, auto-light, a G-Shock build, and radio-controlled timing ~$150. Before considering other watches, I recommend looking at these 3.

Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Casio, Citizen, Timex, Swatch

Q: What is your grail watch and why?

Gonna go with the G-Shock Kachi-Iro MRGB2000R-1A. Masterpiece of composition, function and grace, I'm at a loss for verbs. All analog but with digital guts. It outshines its similarly priced and named siblings by adding a textured bezel and using those Samurai colors so well. Can't afford it, don't own it, but I'll go out on a limb to say it's the best.
