We Interrupt The Parade Of Expensive Watches For This...

My Casio AQ-350W came back from the shop today, and I'm happy to report it has been successfully resurrected.

To be honest, I'm very surprised that after what must have been over 25 years sitting in a jewelry box that the battery hadn't eaten it from the inside out. But apparently it only needed a bit of a cleanup on the terminals. It's been running for a week and the analog and digital times are still perfectly in step.

It's also now fitted with a new gasket and had a thorough clean and polish. Unfortunately we could not source a new crystal so it still has a few chips around the edge but hey - the patina just adds to the vintage feel :-)

What better way to celebrate than with a neat Japanese single malt. Cheers!

I love stories like this.

That Casio looks cool with the red text on the dial! It looks even better than the rerelease they did recently. Yours has applied lume, which looks awesome. Very good to hear such stories :)

Love it. 10/10.

Nice, what is the reference of this Casio?

My apologies, I'm not quite sure what you're asking for. But here goes.

The back of the case is quite worn, and this is the best shot I seem to be able to get with my phone camera...

The text says:

Casio, [305] AQ-350W, Stainless Steel, Water Resistant 50M, Japan H, 332831.

The online serial number decoder suggests this is from March 1993 at the earliest, which lines up with having been purchased before my Citizen EcoDrive that I got in 1998 (I still have the original instruction and warranty books for that one). I did originally think it was older than that but I guess the numbers don't lie.

On the non technical front, this is just an early watch I owned which was put away when the battery ran out and I got something else 😀. After not really wearing watches for many years I've now had a resurgence of interest since getting into a lot of watch repair and then review channels on YouTube.

So I've started my "collection" by restoring watches from my past before moving on to the future.
