I was watching recently an old movie from the 2000s - "Skulls" about the Skull and Bones fraternity at Yale and there was a scene where they gave out Breitling watches to new initiates. To be more specific the Breitling Old Navitimer II, A13322.
Two questions on that:
Why do you think they (producers or whoever) chose those watches? Is there any truth about them actually handing out these at S&B?
What's your opinion on the watch itself? Looking for my 4th piece in my collection and am bouncing around different types/brands atm.
Thanks!

Navitimer is the original pilot's watch with an included slide rule to figure out fuel consumption. It is certainly an icon.
I would assume good old product placement. Perhaps, though, someone involved in production had an affinity for them.
I have this exact watch. I saw that movie when I was about 10 years old, before I had any watches to speak of, and it always stuck with me. My wife recently surprised me with it as an early 10th anniversary present.
I read a bit about the movie, supposedly the Skull and Bones Society that the movie is based on does give watches to their members, though they didn't specify which watch exactly, and I couldn't find any info on what sort of watch it might actually be that they give out.
I'm guessing Breitling just got the product placement contract/agreement for this movie, as I don't see it as a particularly appropriate watch for members of a secret society like this. They usually turn out to be politicians and business moguls, (George Bush, John Kerry, etc.) so I'd think a dressier watch would probably be something they could wear more often.
As far as the watch itself I love it. The rotor on the valjoux 7750 is a bit noisy, but otherwise it's great. The one my wife got me was from a seller in Japan and had recently been serviced, it tells almost perfect time (per my watchcheck app, averaging +0.3 seconds/day). The bracelet is spectacular, and I recently bought a NOS breitling leather strap with white stitching to switch it over to on occasion.
Thanks for sharing this, I was excited to see that someone else had seen the movie and picked up on this watch in it. It actually makes a quick appearance in the third movie too (the sequels aren't great lol).

And thank YOU for sharing this as well! :)
I'm surprised they never show this watch in any of the Top Gun movies.
