MoonSwatch difficulty

I was excited to see the Swatch/Omega collaboration but, based on the "only sold in store" problem I thought I wouldn't get a chance at one for a long while. Fast forward to today, I am in Dubai for work and headed to their store at the Dubai Mall hoping for some luck. When I arrived there was a line of 50 or so people qued outside but no MoonSwatches. They were all waiting for a chance. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained I suppose. I shopped around a bit and bought two watches, one for each of my kids and spoke with the salesperson as he changed the batteries in them. He said they hadn't had any deliveries of the MoonSwatches in over a week and had no idea when they'd be back. I asked about the que and he said they just let whoever is in store que up if they arrive...so I asked if they arrived right now I could get one, even though I'm not qued? He said yes. I thought that kind of rough for those in line but whatever. After getting my watches I left and went to the washroom. Afterwards I walked back by Swatch, they had released 20 MoonSwatches. I missed my window by less then 5 minutes! I'm still a little bummed but I would have felt terrible jumping that que anyway. Oh well, happy hunting for your MoonSwatch if you're into it!

Thanks for the story.  I think it’s completely nuts how this is being handled by Swatch. I guess it’s fair to say they’re increasing traffic and probably sales at their stores, but I can’t be the only one turned off by this. Then again, I haven’t owned a Swatch since the 80s, and yet my family bought 3 of them this spring. And guess why we were in the store?  Damn you Swatch. And most other watch manufacturers.

My friend who went to the store with me said the same thing...but its brilliant actually. I went in for a MoonSwatch and left with two others, but no MoonSwatch. Eventually I'll get one of them too. Frustrating tactic, but brilliant.

Those watches are for the brand hype. They do not produce enough of them to turn a profit on them. They could care less about the availability

Why were battery changes required for the 2 watches you just bought?

They put new batteries in watches if someone has pulled the plastic tab and allowed the battery to run. Just to give the buyer a fresh one.

I bet they are generating nearly unprecedented in store sales with the amount of foot traffic they are seeing lately. I mean, I bought two watches that I wouldn't have otherwise and I wasn't the only one.

I was so into ready to purchase one but after all the hype, let downs and riff raffs. I said forget it I know I kind of new to this hobby but when was a time that a well known watch company collaborated and made huge success and super thrive? and made billions of dollars?
