Tudor Black Bay GMT Review

this watch was amazing to own and i don’t regret buying it, however, after almost a year of using this timepiece as my daily driver, i realized how stupidly large and clumsy it looked on my six inch wrists. by all means, cop this if you’re a bigger dude that likes to travel! it’s a fantastic tool watch and looks elegant aside from the fact that it’s ridiculously thick.

if your wrists are more medium-sized, it might just work but try it on in person a few times. my other qualm was the width of the watch head in comparison to the bracelet/clasp. due to not having the t-fit clasp, i was always between sizes as well. other than that, it was pretty much perfect and justified my need for a Pepsi GMT Master II.

random disclaimer: i did use an uncle seiko jubilee on it which made it look way cooler but it was still too big. again, it’s just a case of right watch, wrong owner.

i didn’t use the gmt function as much as i thought i would. i used the bezel a ton of timekeeping and it was really handy for delegating 15 minute increments.

it’s also not a replacement for a Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi, I promise. it will NOT scratch the Pepsi itch in the long run. both these watches, despite their shared dna give off very different vibes. it’s also a little hard to dress up, hence why i swapped the standard three-link for the uncle seiko jubilee bracelet. but yk what? it looked a little mismatched. perhaps because i got the US one with the polished centerlinks but who knows.

again, this watch was great and it hurts a little to part with it but it’s simply time to move on (no pun intended).

thanks to the poll i put out (still open!), you guys helped me decide on the BB54 which i’ll be getting very soon.

  • real traveler’s gmt, functions like a charm
  • looks super captivating, great for big-wristed gents
  • it’s (mostly) not the watch, it’s me
  • way too tall (over 15mm!)
  • not good for wrists around the 6" mark (it looks clunky)
  • it’s pretty damn (top) heavy, you will feel it
  • bezel scratches really easily and it’s just not impressive like the GMT Master II

I have mine for about 3 months now. In my opinion the 15mm thickness is noticable but the crystal and the caseback are about 3mm so in the end the watch itself is not even that big. The flat sides of the case are the problem, they make the case look thick.

I’ve had mine for nearly 18 months. I’ve not had any bezel scratching issues with mine (thankfully). My wrist is about 7”, and the watch doesn’t feel out of proportion on it. Is the watch thick? It certainly is slab sided, but it’s no thicker than any chronograph I own. My biggest knock is that it IS heavy, and I always know when I’m wearing it.

fair, perhaps my review would be similar if we had the same wrist sizes. again, not a bad watch at all but those negative points you’re having with the size/weight was that much worse for me

wrist girth???

6 3/4 inch

6 3/4 inch

that can make all the difference then, it’s mostly a matter of the size of my wrist and the size of the watch not working too well together

you're right, especially the feeling of it being top heavy increases on smaller wrists
