Convince me I am crazy…

I tried this on a couple weeks ago and its been lingering in the back of my mind. It has perfect dimensions, a 6’clock date, great finishing and a beautiful blue fumé dial. The only “draw back” would be the price which in turn is more about the movement - the Calibre 5, a Sellita 200-1 with a 38hr power reserve. I am not a movement snob, but I want to make sure I am not looking past other watches. At around 3k out the door, are there other divers I should consider first?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Two questions:

  1.  Do you rotate through few enough watches that a longer power reserve would actually matter? I ask because by the time I get back to my Hamilton Cooper, it's just as dead as my CW C60s, despite having an 80hr power reserve.
  2.  Do you love the style of the watch? If yes, why worry about what watch snobs thing about the pedigree of the movement?

My opinion is that case finishing, and overall styling are more important than movement, so long as it's a reputable movement like the SW200, ETA 2824, 7750, SW500, etc..

TAG will never be a watch social media darling, so if getting online likes matters(and it's fair if that matters) avoid it, otherwise buy what you like.

thanks @KristianG !

I definitely like the styling of the watch - surprisingly because I haven’t been drawn to Aquaracers of the past but think the refresh with the brushed bezel has really transformed it for me... feels very fresh and modern.

Honestly, I don’t really don’t care about the movement - the Sellita is a fine engine imo. I was only quoting the ”drawback” based on other’s review of the watch - which was only in reference to its price/value for money proposition. I completely agree with you about the rotation - and would likely find myself resetting the time/winding regardless of the power reserve.

I guess my post is about finding reason to talk myself out of purchasing, as I am struggling to save for other thing 😂 Thanks again!

Nothing wrong with that one. But get the quartz, save a bunch of cash, and treat the girlfriend/wife to a weekend away.

Love the redesign! Do it but wait for a sale. Tag always goes on sale. Never pay retail if I could help it. But definitely do it!👍👍

I completely understand. All of a sudden Tag is stepping up a bit… Get what feels the best on your wrist, but always try on every brand you can in your price range! Cheers 🍻

Tag has never done much for me, but that one is pretty damn cool.

Looks great,if you like it go for it just shop around first for good deals 👍

·

it is nice looking aquaracer, i didnt know why tag has a bad reputation lol. important things is you like the design first. do you think tag bezel shape (dodekagon) looks like a seamaster bezel? 😂

so did you get it lol? Because I went to an AD today and tried the black one on today and I was pleasantly surprised. And I've stayed away from tag for quite some time now.

I was able to hold off… telling myself to wait AFTER Watches and Wonders releases.
