Testing New Designs [Seiko NH35]

I’ve been working on some different style builds to slowly inch away from the standard Seiko mods most people see floating around online.

I technically wouldn’t consider this a “mod”, but more of a scratch build. I used the highest quality SKX007 AP Royal Oak conversion case available. It fits all SKX007 chapter rings, crowns, and casebacks which opens up lots of design combinations.

Let me know what you think in the comments! Any feedback is appreciated 🙏🏽

Looks are a 10, love the colour, in terms of functionality and readability a bit confusing for me, though, with the grid. Date numbers are kinda visible, yet they're not really readable. A lot of stuff in the front and back, makes it a bit "closed off".

Anyway, anyone can say whatever about it, but 99.9% of people don't have the skills to make something as cool as this. So, maybe listen to feedback, or maybe don't. Important thing is to keep it up man!

I have been staring at these photos for about 15 minutes now and my honest answer is, I just don't know. I think that with a dial that vivid it makes the rest of the watch look a little plain but I just don't know if extending the colour to elsewhere will help or make it worse. I actually really like the whole dial and find it perfectly legible. I just don't know about the back either. I guess i don't understand why you would include an exhibition back and the restrict the view with that fan like thing. As @bulgarian said above, I really appreciate the effort you have put into this, and I definitely do not yet have the skills to attempt anything like this myself, so keep it up, and take my ramblings with a pinch of salt!

I feel similar regarding the date wheel. I wish the dial didn’t have a date window otherwise I would use a NH70 skeleton movement. Thanks for confirming my suspicions on that!

I definitely know what you mean with the caseback. I have a slimmer solid caseback that can be substituted. The sunray caseback is definitely cool but i’m still trying to find the right builds to use them for. I figured the NH series movements aren’t the most visually appealing, so the sunray design adds some ability to view the mechanics while providing a little fun haha

Just a though, have you considered generating an image with that colour on different parts of the watch to see what it looks like? For example on the small link hinges running round the bracelet?

It looks really good, but I would also be a bit concerned about readability with those blue/black hands on blue/black dial !

I love the fact that the days disc is visible and I think the sunray back works pretty well 👌🏻

Very cool design! I really like it overall and get a wheel/rims vibe from the dial front and back. For me, I dont like the dates showing from underneath. I find them distracting, makes the dial harder to read, and detracts from the design of the dial cutout. Other thing, and this is just preference, I would go with deeper, more muted color scheme (darker blue vs bright blue, or a maroon vs bright red, etc). Again, just my preference.

Overall though, very nice design 👏

I think the design is too busy. It takes your eyes off the hands.
