Date window

My date window is between 31st and 1st. I can see a bit of the 31 and a bit of the number 1, but the hands are working just fine. Could it be that the ”process” of setting a new date takes a while and that it has started now, approximately 30 minutes before midnight?

Yes.

There are mechanisms that snap over, but most gradually change over about an hour or so.

Ok, I thought it would turn to number 1 immediately like when you set the date by hand, but that’s not the case then?

RTFM! This is common, at least with my cheapies. They expect you to be asleep around midnight, you night owl. If it's centered properly for 22+ hours of the day, it's probably fine.

Guess it’s time to sleep! Thank you

When the date is set by hand, there is much more force being applied to the gear train than the power that comes from the spring under normal operation. Therefore, it only appears to snap over due to the extra power that is being applied when hand setting the day or date.

Typically it can take some time if its not an instant changer, can be anywhere from 9pm to 3am. My two language day/date seiko 5 takes all 6 hours

This is the reason why that's considered the dead zone where you shouldn't change the date, as you don't want to damage the movement
